#004: punchout v1.5.0 - themes, config improvements, and issue caching
punchout v1.5.0 is out. This release adds built-in themes, an interactive tour, improved configuration support, and optional issue caching. It also includes updates to the worklog views and MCP server, alongside quite a bit of work under the hood.
The most visible change is the addition of built-in themes. They can be switched
directly in the TUI using [ and ], and a preferred theme can be set via a
flag or the config file. Here’s a sampling of 4 of them.
| Theme | Preview |
|---|---|
| catppuccin-mocha | ![]() |
| monokai-classic | ![]() |
| rose-pine-moon | ![]() |
| gruvbox-light | ![]() |
This release also adds an interactive tour covering the main TUI workflow, MCP
server, and configuration. It can be run with punchout tour.
There are also new commands for showing and validating configuration, and an option to load cached JIRA issues when starting the TUI. Worklog lists now show issue summaries when comments are absent, and syncing limits the number of concurrent requests sent to JIRA.
Here’s the updated TUI in action.
The MCP server has been updated to support protocol version 2026-07-28 and
can now read its transport settings from the config file.
A fair amount changed under the hood as well. Configuration and persistence now have clearer ownership boundaries, and the TUI and MCP pathways depend on narrower interfaces. This has left the codebase easier to test and reason about.
The complete list of changes is available in the release notes.
